Domain
Transfer
For a transfer to be successful, the
following conditions must exist:
I.
Domain cannot be in Locked,
Hold,
or Dispute status.
II.
Domain name must have been registered for
more than 60 days
since it was first registered there OR since it was
last transferred.
III. Domain names that are expired
but not deleted (up to 40 days past the expiry
date, for most TLDs) can be transferred.
VI. The current
administrative contact's email address must be
valid, to allow for the confirmation of the transfer
request.
To Proceed:
1. Fill-out the domain registry transfer
form and select "transfer".
2. Type in the domain name that you will be transferring
and the contact details (owner, administrative, billing).
Please be sure that the administrative contact e-mail
address is the same as the one you
have indicated when you first registered this transferred
domain.*
3.
Fill out your credit card details to finalize the transfer
of your domain name.
4.
Confirm the transfer details. If there are any errors,
click on the appropriate step on the left and make the
corrections.
*In order to verify
the transfer request, the email address must be acquired.
The OpenSRS system finds the email address for the administrative
contact by querying the WHOIS output of the current
Registrar.
If the email address is available from the WHOIS output
and is properly formed, the system emails the administrative
contact a URL with instructions for approving or declining
the transfer request.
IMPORTANT:
If OpenSRS cannot determine the email address
of the admin contact (e.g. it is missing, does not contain
valid characters, email address is outdated) OR the
Registrant chooses to do nothing, then the opportunity
to decline the transfer times out, and the Registry
automatically completes
the transfer after five days.
The
domain transfer process usually takes 5-7 working days
to be completed.
A transfer charge of $18.00*
for a .com/.net/.org/.biz/.info domain and $28.00 for
a .ca domain will apply. This charge includes one year
extension of your domain's expiry date after the transfer
is completed.
NOTE:
A domain's nameservers cannot
be changed during a Registrar transfer. The nameservers
will remain the same during the transfer, and they can
be changed once the domain has reached the OpenSRS system.
*
prices are in CND and subject to 7% tax.
Hosting
Transfer
To avoid website downtime, please follow
the below procedures BEFORE cancelling
your initial hosting account:
1.
Sign up for a Web hosting account via our Signup
Wizard. Once your account is setup, you will
receive an e-mail from us (subject:"Your web account
is ready!") which includes your FTP/control panel
login information and account settings.
2.
Contact your domain registrar and have your domain DNS
point to our assigned nameserver addresses which are
sent along in our Welcome email. Please contact us at
support@mecca.ca
should you need information about your DNS information.
It will take about 48-72 hours
for your domain registrar to update their DNS (the amount
of actual time varies by registrar). Once it's updated,
your domain name will point to your new website that
is hosted on Mecca's servers automatically.
3.
Next, upload all your files to our Web server and create
all associated email address(es) via our Control Panel.
The welcome email should contain all tutorials (with
screenshots) for setting up email accounts.
4.
If you use e-mail addresses associated with the domain
name, we recommend that you check mails at both locations
(via your previous hosting company
and on our mail server).
Once you confirm that all e-mail settings and your website
are properly pointed to Mecca, go ahead and cancel the
account with your previous hosting company.
